Dumb Even for a Fake Biopic.
I really thought that I'd enjoy this movie but each minute, each scene just kept displaying historical inaccuracies which were completely pointless historical inaccuracies that eventually just wore me down and killed the movie for me. In other words, they could have gotten these dates and characters and events right without harming the movie's drama in any way. For example, the real opening scene of Hank at the Opry-Hank Williams wasn't on the Opry in 1945 and his song that was used wasn't written yet. To mention a few more stupidities - Billy Byrd wasn't a hopeless drunk. The Korean War wasn't still going on in 1955. Just to mention a few. . .
The other scenes of Hank establishing himself in Nashville are interesting and the name dropping and glimpses of the stars are enjoyable.
The real problem with the movie is the incredibly bad writing and directing which the fine acting of this cast, all of whom were unfamiliar to me, could not overcome. Doesn't it...
Crazy
The music for the soundtrack is wonderfully played--well worth seeing the movie just for that. From what I've read, the actual Hank Garland story was changed somewhat for the movie, but it's a great movie, whether it's truth or fiction. I recommend it highly.
Simply Awesome!!!
I saw this movie about a year ago at a small theater in St. Charles, Illinois. Before that, I had heard of Hank Garland, but never realized how much he contributed to the Nashville community with his fine guitar work..working with Brenda Lee..Patsy Cline..and many others. I REALLY enjoyed the cameo appearance by Mandy Barnett, whom I consider one of the BEST singers Nashville has to offer. Her renditions of "Walking After Midnight"..and "I Fall To Pieces"are stunning!!!I only wish we could have more music from this lady, who hasn't had a CD out for some years now. The only negative..musicwise..is they did not have the foresight to let Mandy sing the title song"Crazy".That went to Diana Krall..who does a decent job...BUT Mandy would of "knocked it out of the box"!!
Bravo..Rent this Movie..It was worth the long wait to get to DVD!!!
