Disaster Zone: Volcano in New York / Absolute Zero

"The Good" with "The Bad"
It is a good thing that these two movies are being sold together otherwise the movie "Absolute Zero" would rarely get sold. I had never seen this disaster movie before. The characters in this movie are so unbelieveable that you lose interest. The scientist are so uninteresting that they are boring. No explanation of the pending disaster which is going to occur. Which, by the way, is a shift of the poles, causing an ice age in the southern part of the US. Very little science in this movie and even less acting.

"Volcano in New York" is a good disaster, science fiction, movie. Truthfully, I've seen it several times and would not hesitate to watch it again. Good science, good acting and it's never boring. Very believeable. Good story.

SyFy Guilty Pleasure
I am almost embarrassed to say I bought Danger Zone: Volcano in New York. It wouldn't have happened except for the guy's. Costas Mandylor is the main reason. He was sexy without being unclothed and his team complemented him. Plus Michael Ironside playing his usual psycho to the hilt. Alexandra Paul plays the ex wife who is part of the plot.
This is a bad good movie a SYFY specialty!

Tony Bennett: The Music Never Ends (Two-Disc Special Edition)

The new 'Gold Standard' for musical biography!
"You want it for Christmas?" my wife asked, after spotting a small, full-color ad for this DVD package in our "National Post" newspaper. And while she shopped at Sears for a red dress yesterday, I dropped into the next-door Wal-Mart (ostensibly to see the new "Eagles" CD - "available exclusively, for under 12 dollars!"). And there it was: stacks and stacks of "Clint Eastwood Presents Tony Bennett: The Music Never Ends TWO-DISC Special Edition" And well . . . I couldn't wait till Christmas to enjoy!

After my son put up our (artificial) tree -- as he always does -- and had strung the hundreds of (clear) lights . . . in preparation for his two children coming over today to decorate it (as only they can) . . . then we sat down to watch this show: 'Spellbinding,' is the word that springs to mind.

First things first: No performer in the history of American popular music has ever been better `celebrated' in a made-for-TV production than by this (2007) "American...

Great concept and artist, terrible production mistake
Pre-Ordered this after seeing the PBS special. Bennett is my all time favorite and disk one is absouley wonderful. However as an earlier reviewer noted, the second disc is a duplicate of the first, not the concert performance it is supposed to be. Having this corrected by Amazon is an impossibility. Just try to get a human to respond to your problem. My advice is not to waste your $ now on amazon and wait to see if warner video realizes what they've done. Get it from an actual store that can address the problem if your copy has the error.

Im sure it would be great if both disks werent the same.The concert is missing.
Ive ordered 3 of these in hopes to get the Concert disk- to actually be a concert.
Both disks are the same thing- disk 1.
Sony didnt even recall them.
And they Admitted it!!!
They just let us waste our money and figured we would live with it.
Typical of a rich corporation nowadays.

Hot Wheels Battle Force 5: Season 1, Vol. 2

4 yr old loves
Heroes and hot wheel cars my son loves the series. He can watch it for hours and entertaining for all ages

Battle Force 5 is my favorite show! I like the exciting things that they do. There is good personality in Vert (and all the characters).

This DVD has all my favorite episodes (Double Down, Behind Enemy Lines). In 'Double Down,' Battle Force 5 is copied, like the exact opposite, and the evil Vert secretly steals the key from BF5. 'Behind Enemy Lines' is the first episode that is in the Vandal home world. This BF5 disc doesn't have any extras, just so you know. (We are hoping for a full season release with extras - very soon!!!) This disc is very good quality.

(Mom's notes: my son discovered BF5 through a Hot Wheels Happy Meal toy. When he went on the Hot Wheels website he saw the Battle Force 5 and was hooked in right away by the exciting, cool videos of fast paced action and cars and humor. He was so excited he wanted his parents to see it too! As I have been watching it with him, I have been drawn in by the simple, but interesting plots driven (haha)...

Good Movie
My kid would not stop talking about wanting this series on DVD. When we got it for him he watched it non-stop for about 3 days. For the price, its good entertainment for a few days.

Surprised and moved
It's hard to escape spoilers these days and while I tried, eventually one caught up with me. Knowing something about the ending and reading the mixed reviews I found myself interested in seeing if Robert Pattinson could act but wondering if this is the right vehicle and whether I wanted to see it. Then I came across an interview with the screenwriter. I pretty much knew the ending before I saw the movie and in a strange way it made the watching even more meaningful since the ending isn't as important as how the film gets there and what it says along the way.

I was plesantly surprised that even tho RP was in nearly every scene I didn't feel this was a vehicle for him but rather a character and relationship study. I expected him to be much more brooding and dark based on what I'd read. I'd like to see him stretch and tackle a variety of roles; I was plesantly surprised at his performance here. Somehow his leading man persona blended into the ensemble more than I expected and...

An unfinished life.
I love this movie because instead of focusing on the the last hours of a person's life and allowing that end to define them, this story takes a flawed and real character and uses his journey to find himself to make us appreciate the untold story of everyone whose life ended before they'd gotten to a discernable finish line.

My husband asked me what the movie was about, and I told him that I couldn't tell him what it was about without making him miss the point. The movie is about the ending, without being about the ending because it forces us to get to know the character and take a journey with him. Tyler's life wasn't about the end of the movie, it was about all the moments that got him there. Seeing the movie without any preconceived notions, we are all in the same position that he is in, not understanding that tomorrow isn't promised. This movie is about potential, lost.

Remember Me, indeed.....
I saw this movie over the weekend. I can tell you, it is one of the best movies I have ever seen. I've already seen it a couple more times...the more I see it...the more I love it. It is more than a love story...and not easy to explain...except to say I found there wasn't one bad scene in the movie..it all kept you so engrossed in the story. You go thru the whole range of emotions during this film...and the ending will surprise you and stsy with you long after you leave the theater. Love passionately and live loudly every moment of your life.

The Wronged Man

Julia Ormond gives a fine performance in the Wronged Man.
The Wronged Man features Julia Ormond in a fine performance as a paralegal who works for over fifteen years to help accused child rapist Calvin Willis prove his innocence of this crime. "Based on a true story" is what we are told at the beginning of the film. Willis spends twenty-two years in a Lousiana jail for a crime DNA evidence eventually proves he did not commit. That much is certainly true. It is also true that Janet Gregory, the paralegal played by Ormond, works tirelessly to exonerate Willis. Year after year her appeals are denied, yet she never gives up. Her patience and hard work are rewarded. At the end of the film we see Willis and Gregory walk out of prison together as family and friends gather around them.

From beginning to end this is Julia Ormond's film and she does not disappoint. She plays Janet Gregory as a person who has few resources other than her own intelligence, hard work, and determination. Ormond is a skilled actor who shows us a woman who...

Julia Ormond is great in the Wronged Man
First, this is not a depressing movie but one of hope and determination by a paralegal, Prissy (Julia Ormond). The setting of the movie is in the state of Louisiana and Prissy fights with the Louisiana legal system, at a great personal cost to her, for over twenty to free a wrongly imprisoned black man. I enjoyed this movie and would recommend to anyone and in my opinion this is a five star for me. Julia Ormond is a great actress and she never disappoints. I become a big fan of her work.

Tragic story, great movie.
Being falsely accused of anything you are not guilty of is a difficult situation. To be punished and lose most of your life because of the accusation is tragic. This movie does a great job of showing the difficulties faced when attempting to rectify such a scenario. It is not an action-packed flick, but one that shows how slowly the wheels of justice can turn in this great country.

Phobic

MENTAL ILLNESS TAKES THREE STEPS BACKWARDS
Here's what PHOBIC is about (basically): A young man witnesses the brutal murder of his sixteen year old sister by a maniacal serial killer. They had just come home from the grocery store, and he is supposed to help her in with the bags, but he's so excited about seeing a "big football game" he runs in leaving her outside in broad daylight where said killer confronts her and stabs her. He runs out and sees him, runs back in the house and locks the door. The killer ominously says, if you ever come back out, I will get you too. So he conveniently develops agoraphobia and won't go out of the house at all. He has on-line therapy sessions with a doctor, and he keeps having awful nightmares about his sister's murder. They capture said killer but Joey doesn't think he's the right one, that the real killer is still after him. In the finale, he confronts his fears and the serial killer in a tangled web of psychobabble nonsense.

A Trainwreck!!!
Let me keep this review short and sweet: This has to be the worse movie I ever seen in all my life of watching movies.

I can't even go out of my way to call this one a camp, B-picture. That is how ghastly this film is.

The storytelling is awful. The cast is forgettable. The directing and lighting is abysmal.

I have no idea why a credible studio would spend a nickle getting this film made.

Thank goodness when I got this movie at Gamestop in 2007, I only spent $2-bucks and it skipped in between a few scenes (which I didn't care because I couldn't wait til it was over).

Buy this movie at your own risk.

A psychological al horror or thriller film
After witnessing his sister's murder escaping inside a locked house,
the young hero has trouble leaving his house.
He is being treated by an online doctor that he has never met face to face.
The killer is still waiting, stocking him...
When will the sudden death strike?
The acting is minimal and the plot is not all that original,
the best thing about this movie may be the photography ( camera angles
and close ups) or picture quality, which is better than in most B films of this type. Not a picture for the faint of heart as there is a lot of violence, remembered violence and blood.

Bakugan Battle Brawlers, Chapter 2

Bakugan movie
This movie is based on the early morning cartoon Bakugan Brawlers, and resolves many of the questions my grandson had about Bakugans. He throughly enjoyed watching this movie, and will watch it many times over. Well worth the price in entertainment value.

Great gift for a boy!
I got this DVD as a birthday gift for my son's Bakugan theme party. He loves it so much that he's been watching it day and night. Product arrived quickly and in perfect condition.

Good series
Easier to buy these then collect off cable. Getting them in order helps the series make more sense. Looking forward to getting the rest

Thomas & Friends: Misty Island Rescue

Steaming in the wrong direction...
The last special released in the Thomas franchise was Thomas & Friends: Hero of the Rails, the first fully-animated feature with our #1 tank engine. I was impressed how it was down-to-earth, kept things as realistic as possible, and showed real character development and personality, leading for good morals for children to learn. It was everything a parent and child would want, instead of something bland and colorful that parents could sit their kids in front of while they went off to do other things.

Misty Island Rescue, on the other hand, is none of those things.

The film starts off with Thomas helping to build the brand new Sodor Search and Rescue Center. Special wood from far away, called "Jobi wood", is needed to build it. Kinda Different, if you know what I mean.
I'm raising my twin grandsons who will soon be three and we own just about every "Thomas The Train" DVD out. I had been waiting for several months for the release of "Misty Island Rescue," with full understanding that, unlike the old offerings, this would be 100% animation. The actual DVD is of decent quality, however, the storyline is as strange as it can get. THIS IS A RATHER DARK FEELING DVD,(not quite Tim Burton, but headed in that direction). By that I mean it lacks the warmth I generally associate with Thomas stories throughout the years. Aside from several familiar characters, it doesn't even feel like it's taking place in Sodor. (A real twist, when you discover that Misty Island and Sodor are actually, but confusingly connected.)

If I had to come up with one word to describe this particular Thomas The Train DVD, it would have to be "WEIRD!!!" This is confirmed by Twins who don't want to view it again. Mind you, they always watch every one of the other DVD's again...

2 year old says "Meh."
This is not a bad story, but it drags. It could easily fit into half an hour and be more enjoyable. There are some nice moments of friendship and good values, my son really likes Cranky the Crane and Whiff, and I do like the new animation and the way the characters do more of their own dialog than the old style-- it develops the characters well. However, there were too many repetitions of Thomas's "I make good decisions" mantra, too long spent dithering around on Misty Island with creepy/kooky Bash and Dash, and too many truly suspenseful/dangerous situations, which all combined to make my 2yo son simultaneously anxious and bored. Not what I hope for when I pop in a Thomas movie! Perhaps for an older child it would be more engaging, and we'll stick to the shorter classic episodes until he's ready for longer movies. I'm glad I tried the Amazon video on demand version before buying it, that's a great way to preview without the expense and cutter of owning yet another movie that...
