Dreadtime Stories Double Feature: The Woods / The Craft

I love the Craft but the other movie isnt worth purchasing the dui
I had no problem with the seller at all transaction was good prompt shipping. Dvd in good condition.
The Woods is barely tolerable to watch. My kids turned it off they thought it was so stupid. I again tried to watch it because sometimes the ending makes it better. Nope it sucked! If you are a fan of the Craft dont bother paying extra for the dual pack.

the woods and the movie craft
the movie craft is about young teen girls wanting power and since there average looking they want attention and revenge. they do get some power and are not nice to any boyd. its suspense science fiction , if you ask me. it its little different at least at the time it came out. the woods i cant remember much , since i do have over ten thousand movies.

True Crime

A Race Against Time
Clint Eastwood plays reporter Steve Everett, who puts his job on the line and his family on hold to prove the innocence of an unjustly condemned man. He was given the story as a human interest piece,a story that was to depict the last few hours in the life of Frank Beechum(Isaiah Washington). He is at odds with his editor and is warned not to turn the story into a "Dick Tracey investigation".

Steve is alot of things. He's an alcoholic(on the wagon),a womanizer, and lacks in the qualities needed to be a good father and husband to his family. But one thing he does have, is his reporter's instinct. He has "his nose" for the truth. He senses something fishy about the case which has already gone through numerous appeals, and with only hours to the execution, starts digging around, and takes us on a thrilling ride as he tries, up to the very last second, to save Frank from the death penalty.

There is another storyline that runs parallel to the main focus of the film. The...

CLOCKWORK OAKLAND
At least two scenes of TRUE CRIME should stay in my memory for a very long time : the visit at the zoo with Clint Eastwood shouting "Speed Zoo" and "We're going fast" while pushing his daughter on wheels and the scene involving Clint and James Woods for a conversation about women, ethics and capital punishment : two great actors for a moment of pure pleasure.

At first, TRUE CRIME could be considered as another movie about capital punishment. Well filmed, with a good rythm and convincing actors, this movie is the perfect movie to rent. But take a second look at TRUE CRIME and you won't be disappointed. This movie can be seen one, two or three times, it will still unveil a lot of goodies. One can admire how Clint Eastwood compares with subtlety the destiny of Steve Everett and Frank Beechum by using descriptions of similar situations : for example, the two little girls harassing their fathers with multiple demands at a crucial moment. Let's also observe...

A Must See Movie!
When I first saw the trailer, I thought this was going to be a boring movie. But once I saw it, I just had to get the word out that this was one of the best movies I've seen in a long time. The movie is filled with suspense, great acting, and a wonderful plot/story. It's about an innocent man saved from the death penalty at the exact moment. To enjoy the movie you must see it with the proper settings and without distraction. Otherwise, you won't enjoy it as much. The movie has a lot of big names in the movie including Clint Eastwood, who produced and directed this movie, Dennis Leary, and etc. Happened to see Absolute Power, directed by Eastwood, but this movie is a much superior film. Eastwood definitely redeemed himself in this one. So go watch this great film.

City Heat

Lightweight Fun With Clint and Burt
"City Heat" (1984) is a nostalgic throwback to those Spencer Tracy-Clark Gable vehicles of the late 1930s. It's lightweight stuff, but Clint Eastwood and Burt Reynolds make a good team in this Prohibition-era caper. The star chemistry compensates for a weak script and troubled production history (Clint selected director Richard Benjamin after a falling out with original collaborator Blake Edwards - alias Sam O. Brown in the final credits). Though a disappointment with critics and audiences, Clint and Burt have done much worse.

Great film
I love movies set in this era. I love the clothes, the cars, the music; it was just a simpler time in America's history.

Burt Reynolds and Clint Eastwood play off of each other so well and the one-liners are hilarious. Great plot, great comedy, and great fun.

Reynolds when Eastwood walks unannounced into the office: "I didn't hear you knock."

Eastwood: "What a relief. I thought I was going deaf."

These two constantly banter like this throughout the whole fim and it's always funny.

Give this fun flick a try.

For Eastwood Fans...
As a Clint Eastwood fan, I could not pass on a Three Movie DVD at a one Movie price.
I like these movies, I do.
Some say that 'Pink Cadillac' is one of his poorest efforts, yet Bernadette Peters easily
makes up for that. So I really like that movie also.
Overall, a good purchase.

Million Dollar Baby

Powerful, believable performances fuel this moving film
Hillary Swank (Margaret Fitzgerald), who proved her athleticism in her first major role, The Next Karate Kid, demonstrated it again, pummeling a heavy bag with a power left on which I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end. She's very convincing in this movie - both as a young woman from humble beginnings who wants to make a better life for herself, and as a boxer. In Million Dollar Baby, she returns to the visceral emotional range that left us so deeply moved in Boy's Don't Cry.

Clint Eastwood (Frankie Dunn), who has proved himself repeatedly, has perhaps turned in the best performance of his career. At times irascible, intellectual, mournful, instructive, reflective, passionate - in every manifestation, he reaches you. He was brilliant.

And Morgan Freeman is, well, Morgan Freeman. As the narrator of the story, and an actor within it, he lends a soft-spoken touch that ameliorates some of the film's darker elements. He also lent the film a certain amount of...

6 Stars: Maggie May
Frankie Dunn (Clint Eastwood) is "the best cut man in the business' intones the narrator, Morgan Freeman in "Million Dollar Baby." Frankie can clean up a cut in seconds so that a fighter can get back in the ring and at the very least finish the fight and at best, win.

Yet Frankie can't heal the emotional wounds of his life even though he spends 365 days a year at Mass and writes letters to his estranged daughter every day asking for, I assume forgiveness. But the letters come back marked "Return to Sender" and Frankie files them away in a box and his life returns to the needs and wants of his Gym for Boxers and to his best friend, confidant and former fighter, Eddie Dupris (Morgan Freeman).

And then Maggie Fitzgerald walks into Frankie's Gym, pays her Gym dues for six months and asks Frankie every day to train her. And everyday he turns her down: "you're too old, too skinny...and you're a girl," he says.

Until one day she wears him down, he concedes to...

Million Dollar Movie
Like others, I went into this movie knowing the basics. Clint Eastwood trains Hilary Swank to be a professional boxer. I only saw this movie because it is nominated in the Best Picture category, among others, & I felt to need to see it. I went into this movie with no expectations. I really thought I would think it was ok. Well, it FAR surpassed my expectations. After seeing this movie, I can finally understand what all the hype is about it! If you havent seen it, GO NOW! WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?! Million Dollar Baby is a little bit of everything. A little drama, a little comedy & alot of heart tugging moments. I'm not going to give away the ending. .. that's for you guys to go see for yourselves. I will say however, that it will be money well worth spent. I have seen all 5 nominated films & I will be pulling for this Million Dollar Movie to take home the Best Picture Oscar!

Disaster Zone: Volcano in New York / Absolute Zero

"The Good" with "The Bad"
It is a good thing that these two movies are being sold together otherwise the movie "Absolute Zero" would rarely get sold. I had never seen this disaster movie before. The characters in this movie are so unbelieveable that you lose interest. The scientist are so uninteresting that they are boring. No explanation of the pending disaster which is going to occur. Which, by the way, is a shift of the poles, causing an ice age in the southern part of the US. Very little science in this movie and even less acting.

"Volcano in New York" is a good disaster, science fiction, movie. Truthfully, I've seen it several times and would not hesitate to watch it again. Good science, good acting and it's never boring. Very believeable. Good story.

SyFy Guilty Pleasure
I am almost embarrassed to say I bought Danger Zone: Volcano in New York. It wouldn't have happened except for the guy's. Costas Mandylor is the main reason. He was sexy without being unclothed and his team complemented him. Plus Michael Ironside playing his usual psycho to the hilt. Alexandra Paul plays the ex wife who is part of the plot.
This is a bad good movie a SYFY specialty!

disaster zone volcano in new york/absolute zero
The movies are based on two naturaly disasters, one caused by man,and the other by nature.1)Volcane in new york is caused by A reckless scientist, makes A try to tap in to the earths inner core in the the center of new york city. But instead lets out millions of tons of lava which nearly covers new york.2)Absolute zero is about A scientist who discovers that the earths ice packs are about to move from there present location new one which will make it A gobal mess.

Heartbreak Ridge

"You shouldn't litter, Fagetti; it's ecologically unsound."
When this film came out, aeons ago, a sneering newspaper reviewer called it an the utltimate "OC" movie, "OC" meaning "of course." He was referring to the fact that there isn't a single character or situation in "Heartbreak Ridge" that could be called remotely original -- it's basically a 1980s version of every 1940s, '50s, & '60s war movie you ever saw. His evidence:

1 - crusty yet somehow loveable sergeant
2 - crusty yet somehow loveable sidekick
3 - pencil-pushing jerk senior officer
4 - green platoon leader
5 - woman from past
6 - bumbling soldier who needs to grow up
7 - assorted Cental Casting platoon members
8 - generic training sequences
9 - generic trial by fire
10 - predictable ending

All this is completely true. I just don't care. The stupid reviewer was too busy being smug to understand that the reason this story has been told so many times is because it is a classic, and classics are timeless. Especially...

Among Clint Eastwood's best!
In Heartbreak Ridge, Clint Eastwood brings the story of whipping a group of slacker marines into shape to life. Although Clint still packs plenty of great one-liners (which are hilarious), his character shows many other sides as well. The other characters are also very colorful, and display a great transition toward the end of the movie. A must-see for Clint fans as well as anybody else.

Funny and Entertaining with a War Story on the Side
I don't take this movie as seriously as Saving Private Ryan, for example, but I don't think the movie takes itself so seriously, either. In fact, it is pretty darn funny in a subtle way. There is enough variety of characters as comic relief to overcome any factual inaccuracies in the film. It is the classic "New commander whips the boys into shape" story.

Super Mario Brothers Super Show!: Off the Map

Nephew loves it....
My nephew is a huge Super Mario Brothers fan. I bought him this for his birthday. He loves it! In fact he took it to his pre-school and all the other kids loved it. Imagine a group of 3-5 year olds quiet and glued to a TV. It makes me want to crawl out of my skin. The best part is when he took it home to watch it over and over and over....

My advice is if you're an uncle or an aunt of a kid that enjoys Super Mario Brothers, buy this DVD and force your sibling to suffer!

super mario brothers super show off the map

My son loves it - good for the price. Watches in car all the time. No negatives. I bought 2-3 different types from the same seller - all are good.

Behind Enemy Lines/The Thin Red Line

Harm's Way
BEHIND ENEMY LINES looks as though it was made with all good intentions. I really wanted to like and enjoy it. Because the character motivations were never deeply explored it lacked the essence of what could have made it a good old fashioned stand-up-and-cheer movie. It moved at a lethargic pace. If the character motivations were explored in depth, lethargy would have been replaced with viewer concern and interest and it would have been a much more entertaining film. Only the confrontation between Joaquim de Almeida as Admiral Piquet and Gene Hackman as Admiral Reigart gave this film some character based emotional fiber and substance that it sorely needed. I also thought this made the Hollywood theatrics at the end of the movie were just too unbelievable and out of place. Owen Wilson, Gene Hackman and David Keith do their best with what script they are given. Actualy Joaquim de Almeida, a very underated actor, came out the most memorable and believable. I found THE THIN RED LINE to be...

Beware of double dvd's
Behind Enemy Lines is a great movie. Unfortunately, it was the only movie on the disk. Very disappointing.
I will think long and hard before buying another double dvd, after this experience.

Two-Minute Warning

"the whole place is a kill-zone"
Filmed in and around the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, this often absurd but always entertaining thriller will be enjoyed by those like me who have an affection for '70s action/disaster movies like "Airport", and the many that followed it.

This like the other films follows the usual formula in the first half by giving us a glimpse into the lives of the participants, which the net of fate reels in for the grand finale, and Charlton Heston and John Cassavetes have a slew of excellent actors to back them in these many parts, like Martin Balsam, Beau Bridges, Gena Rowlands, and even Walter Pidgeon as a pickpocket.

The plot starts with an unidentified sniper killing a cyclist from a hotel window, and then moving to a rooftop location in the stadium, where a championship football game will be played to a sold-out crowd. One of the more realistic parts of the film is how the screaming, cheering crowd is oblivious of what is happening around them (some of it amusing if...

It only takes one sniper...
It only takes one sniper to cause mayhem at a jam-packed Los Angeles Coliseum in this terribly underrated film that was wrongly tagged as an assembly-line disaster pic or a violent big-budget exploitation film. TWO-MINUTE WARNING gets good performances from leading actors Charlton Heston, Martin Balsam, and John Cassavetes in this well-made suspense thriller of police forces trying to stop a mysterious psychotic sniper from shhoting into a crowd of between ninety and one hundred thousand at a championship football game in the Coliseum. The film concludes with a horrible stampede of panic and horror that has all too accurately been repeated in real life in European soccer violence.

Although it has certain melodramatic elements and an all-star lineup (Brock Peters, Gena Rowland, David Janssen, Jack Klugman, etc.), TWO-MINUTE WARNING mostly avoids the pratfalls common to the disaster genre. And the climax, while indisputably violent (earning the film its 'R' rating) is never...

Good 70's action flick
This is an interesting movie, especially in light of what's happened in this country over the last 30+ years.

Filmed in and around the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in 1976. Very low tech by todays standards, but that is part of the appeal. It's always fun to see the old cars, fashions and technology.

There is a long list of stars, as with most movies of this era: Charlton Heston, John Cassavetes,Martin Balsam, Beau Bridges, Gena Rowlands, and even Walter Pidgeon as a pickpocket.

The plot revolves around an unidentified sniper during a championship football game with a sold-out crowd. Unfortunately, you never learn his identity, his target or his motivation.

There are some terrible lines in this movie. The acting is fair to good. The best scene was near the end, when the police are shooting it out with the sniper, and the television crews are watching it all from their trailer.

Overall it's a fair movie that's intersting as a...

Pale Rider

"Nothing like a good piece of hickory!"
The Gold Rush in nineteenth-century California attracted all types of people seeking their fortunes. Some would settle in small mining encampments where each had their claims to search for the precious ore, but greed could encourage some to try and drive people away from their claims. Such was the setting for the 1985 film "Pale Rider", which was directed by Clint Eastwood. Located a few miles from a small town, a mining encampment includes the hard-working Hull Barrett (Michael Moriarty), a woman that he's been living with named Sarah Wheeler (Carrie Snodgrass) and her teenaged daughter Megan Wheeler (Sydney Penny). Frustrated with rising bills at the nearby country store and a greedy & wealthy man named Coy LaHood (Richard A. Dysart) who is trying to drive away the miners, Hull and Sarah's relationship is somewhat strained. After Megan prays for assistance and is reading a verse in the Book of Revelation that states "And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat...

Clint Eastwood Creates a Resurrected and Sexualized Version of "Shane"
In "Pale Rider", Clint Eastwood has taken the classic 1953 Alan Ladd movie "Shane" and turned it into a "modern" sexualized version. There is no mistaking the sexual tension in this film. Clint plays the mysterious "Preacher" (a character the antithesis of sex,), who comes to a mining settlement to rescue persecuted settlers who are a target for a larger mining interest. Eastwood's "Preacher" creates sexual tension with both female leads, the widow Carrie Snodgrass and her duaghter Megan, played by the beautiful Sydney Penny (the memorable "Meggie" in "The Thorn Birds"). Due to previous trauma, the widow has a dead love life and her interest in a new love is reborn with the arrival of Eastwood. Megan, a precocious child of 14 is ready to give her young love to the answer to her prayers, the Preacher.

"Pale Rider" is Eastwood's first western since "The Outlaw Josie Wales", 9 years earlier. In the mid-1980's, the western genre was considered "dead" in Hollywood with...

Pale Rider, BluRay
Very, very poor HD transfer - save your money and make warner Brothers do this one right. The new BluRay release has poor picture quality. Buying this one for $10 does not justify a poor transfer. The 20 - 25% of this film that takes place in a brighter sky does look very nice. But a dominant amount of the film reveals poor black levels, look at the far right side of your screen - throughout the film. Even visible to some degree in the brighter scenes. The story is a classic, but hang on to your DVD for a while longer. Shame on you Warner Brothers!

Beautiful Creatures

An unpredictable dark comedy Pulp Fiction fans will love!
I saw this movie with a little hesitation. I wasn't sure what to expect, but what I had read sounded all too interesting. And from the beginning, I was completely enjoying it.

The dark comedy stars Rachel Weisz (The Mummy, The Mummy Returns, Chain Reaction) and Susan Lynch (Waking Ned Devine) as two women trapped in bad relationships. The two meet by accident, when Dorothy (Lynch) stumbles across Petula (Weisz) being beaten by her boyfriend. As the boyfriend begins choking Petula, Dorothy realizes she must help her. Acting on instinct, Dorothy grabs a large pipe and whacks the man in the head. The two take the unconscious man back to Dorothy's apartment. There, the two introduce themselves. When the boyfriend wakes up, he falls from the bathtub (where Petula and Dorothy had placed him for the time being) he bangs his head. Now Petula and Dorothy have a dead body to deal with. Not just some man either. Petula's boyfriend is the younger brother of a very wealthy and very powerful...

Dorothy & Petula Have A Body To Die For
While this movie had a promising start, it sort of crumbled like a cookie by the middle. Billed as a black comedy/suspense thriller, Beautiful Creatures stars Rachel Weisz and Susan Lynch and Petula and Dorothy, respectively. At the outset we find both women are involved in abusive relationships with very despicable men. Through a chance meeting, Dorothy intervenes, with an usual choice of a weapon, while Petula's boyfriend, Brian, is throttling her, and he is knocked unconscious. Fearful of legal entanglements and repercussions, they drag him back to Dorothy's apartment and try to decide how to best proceed. Brian regains consciousness, and while still suffering from too much drink, he falls and hits his head, ending his own life. This sets up the rest of the movie, as the women have to now deal with a dead body.

Now Brian, who is well off, works for his brother Ronnie, who is even more well off, so the women concoct a scheme to make it appear as if Brian has been kidnapped,...

Don't underestimate these women!
There is a myth in Hollywood that strong women characters have to be strong women (i.e. Erin Brockovich). What I liked about the film "Beautiful Creatures" is that the lead female characters, Petula and Dorothy, are not strong women initially. They have allowed themselves to be dominated by physically, mentally and sexually abusive men. Neither seem to be capable of helping themselves out of these relationships. But, ironically, they each have the ability to help the other. And in helping eachother, they find the strength that had been beaten out of them. Even though the film addresses a serious subject, I found it to be very funny without making light of the domestic abuse issue. Susan Lynch is terrific as Dorothy, the fed-up heroine who comes to the aid of a stranger and finds herself facing murder charges. And "Mummy" fans will hardly recognize Rachel Weisz from her most familiar role as "Evie." Weisz is proving herself to be one of the most versatile...

FAR FETCHED story, told a million times in the 80's
This is a generic, and far-fetched story, which is very similar to most other 80's films--Kids trying to save a community center, school, in this case a hotel from evil Real estate developers!!

Why was this story told so many times in the 80's?

"Breakin", "Beat Street", etc.

FAR FETCHED!!!

The only saving grace of the film is some of the music--Phil Collin's "We said hello goodbye" is a classic, and Marisa Tomei is absolutely ADORABLE.

she's a cutie
You know why you are considering this movie. So does Universal; look at the dvd cover. She wears bright lipstick; big, plastic jewelry; ridiculous clothes; cute bows and ribbons in her hair--all pink and 80s. All too cute. But she does not get much screen time. The main characters are three male friends. And other than Marisa, this movie is terrible.

Timecop 2

Better than I had expected!
Okay, I decided on this movie after a bit of apprehension. I mean, the only reasons I even considered watching it was because: 1. Jason Scott Lee is from Hawaii (like me) 2. We both went to the same high school (really!) 3. I always try to support Asian American actors, even if they don't usually get good roles.

So, with that in mind, I really wasn't expecting much. In fact, I thought it would be worse than the Van Damme original, which, although one of his better movies, was still a waste of a couple of hours of my life. I mean, straight to DVD sequel could never match a big-budget Hollywood movie, right? Well, I'm glad to say I was wrong. This is actually a pretty darned decent movie--better than the original, that's for sure.

Thomas Ian Griffith and Jason Scott Lee are both great. Their roles are complex, as there is a lot of grey area in terms of their being good and evil, but I thought they handled it well. Unfortunately, I still had some trouble seeing...

Suprisingly good
Although I believe this was a straight to video release, it really doesn't look it. The special effects are good, and the film quality is also top notch. It's been quite a few years since I saw the original timecop, but I'm sure that this one is exponentially better. Jason Scott Lee is great as the hero of the film, combining humor, drama, and martial arts.

Basically, there are those who believe that if it were possible to travel back in time, and change things for the better, then it should be done, regardless of what changes may occur in the present. If you could go back in time and kill hitler before the world war, would you? That is the premise in this film. It's easy to say that you shouldn't change history, unless it affects you personally.

Jason Scott Lee kills the wife of the bad guy, and so the bad guy decides to travel back in time and wipe out the existance of the entire time cop agency. And so, he must be stopped. But in the end, it's surprising how exactly the bad...

Awsome Story!!!!!! Bad Editing, Script and Directing
I am going to have to disagree with most of the other reviews on here, by saying that it was awesome. But to do so I must use evidence, so if you haven't seen the movie I am going to tell my favorite parts, which may ruin it for you.
I rented it looking for martial arts, which was good, but `I think' ruined by the directing and editing. If you are looking for martial arts and Jason Scott Lee "The Dragon" blows it away!

Reasons to like Time Cop 2: The Berlin Decision

Yes it has a bad script, editing and directing, but some of the ideas presented are very cool and have never been presented in a movie before (to my knowledge.)

-When the Bad Guy from the future comes back to kill the good guy of the past so that he can stop him from killing his wife in the future, the good guy takes the bad guy from the past hostage and threatens to kill him-which would kill the bad guy of the future and stop him from killing the good guy of the past. Something I thought was very cool...

Mystic River

A stunning film based on a tragic novel.
Clint Eastwood's adaptation of Dennis Lehane's wrenching best-seller, "Mystic River," is a remarkable achievement. Having read the book shortly before seeing the movie, I was impressed with Eastwood's faithfulness to the letter and spirit of Lehane's story.

Sean Penn plays Jimmy Markham (Marcus in the book), a small time hood who did a stint in prison almost two decades earlier. Jimmy now owns a grocery store, is a loving family man, and seems to have given up his criminal ways. As a child, Jimmy was a close friend of Sean Devine, who grew up to become a homicide detective, and Dave Boyle, played by the wonderful Tim Robbins. Boyle endured a terrible trauma as a child, and he is tortured by horrifying thoughts that he can never escape. When Jimmy's nineteen-year-old daughter, Katie, is found brutally murdered, Sean investigates with his partner, played by Laurence Fishburne, and the lives of the three old friends intersect once again.

The stellar cast of "Mystic River" is...

A very disturbing drama
I watched this last night. This movie made me feel like I had been beaten up and left on the sidewalk to crawl home. But, I'm not saying it was a bad film. Eastwood has hit home runs in the last several outings and he has aged his talents to a finely honed formula that rarely dissappoints. I am not familiar with the book that this is based on and frankly I don't want to know: the movie was upsetting enough.

A good drama should move you, should make you feel shaken and this film delivers. The script is very good, the actors all excellent. While the film seems to linger just a wee bit too long at the end, it caps off the story without leaving anything unsaid. Having said this, it also does not tie up every single loose end; we are left to figure it out for ourselves and the ambiguity that this invokes is acceptable.

Sean Penn gives a tremendous performance that is worthy of all the accolades. Following close to him is the evocative and always disturbing...

An American Tragedy
Adapted from Dennis Lehane's critically acclaimed novel, Clint Eastwood's "Mystic River" is a masterful achievement. It does nothing less than elevate contemporary working-class Boston into the realm of Shakespearean tragedy. The film is superbly crafted by screenwriter Brian Helgeland and may turn out to be Clint Eastwood's crowning masterpiece as a director. It also helps that Eastwood has assembled one of the finest ensemble casts in years to act out this deep, gripping story. When you have Sean Penn, Tim Robbins, Kevin Bacon, Laurence Fishburne, Marcia Gay Harden, and Laura Linney in the same movie, there isn't a lot that can go wrong. And very little does.

"Mystic River" is the story of three men and the past events that haunt them in adulthood. Jimmy (Penn), Sean (Bacon), and Dave (Robbins) were friends when they were children, until one day Dave is abducted by two men pretending to be police officers. They sexually abuse him and he manages to escape four days later...

Haz Conmigo lo que Quieras (Kill Me Tender)

LOCO
Good movie! funny and the story it's just... common but not really.. situations normal people rather hide.. I liked it!

** sponsored post

Sometimes, mental disease is funny to watch
The movie depicts a true story on how a woman is hooked on an early extreme experience, and leaves a quiet, pleasant , ordinary, problem free life for prosecuting a career on her perversion. Never a medical lesson was so good explained, and few times "common" people acts better told. When I was a child, a school mate told me that movie makers were running out of subjects, romans and ancient mitology and western's subjects exhausted, and I had the idea that psychiatrist's offices would be a very good source of ideas. That film proves that the concept was not so bad. Enjoy an special part of every day's spanish life!

Honkytonk Man

Critics seldom know what people really enjoy
This wouldn't be the first time, I thoroughly enjoyed a movie that critics labeled as too-something-or-other. This is a great movie and apart from the usual Eastwood fare except for the 'gut-and-grit' exhibited by the lead character, Red Stovall, to accomplish his dream despite tuberculosis. As for down-grading Eastwood's singing ability, there are a number of country greats who lack melodic tone and volume but make up for it with style. (Truly unfortunate that critics can do the same!)

Buy and enjoy this movie; you won't be sorry.

The Eastwood Team
I enjoyed the film very much over all.The acting was well done, which showed the skill of the Director in bring out the talent of each individual actor. I am not sure if the singing and guitar playing of Mr Eastwood was actually done by him or a professional country Western musician. I do think Marty Robbins contributed a great deal to the ending and perhaps it was in some part his sing and playing that inhanced Mr Eastwood in his part

I did wish that more scenes could have involved the radio stations of that error but that was not any detraction from the picture.

I am sure it is difficult for a parent to capture the attention of a son or daughter in a work setting for long periods of time. The very fact of how this film turned out is of special significance to the sucess of the relationship between father and son. Well done gentlemen!

Great Movie
This is a change of pace for Mr Eastwood, but it is a good change. This is a good story and I am very impressed at Mr Eastwood's singing in the movie. Some parts might seem to be rather "cheesy", but Honky Tonk Man has remained a favorite for my entire family for years. The only downside is that if you purchase the soundtrack, there are other people singing the songs rather than Mr Eastwood . . . bad idea!

The Matthew Shepard Story

Powerful, tragic and hard to watch...at times
I've watched this film a few times before, but never owned it until now. I have a special connection to Matthew that I can't explain. I have so much compassion for him and his family although I'm not sure I could've been as merciful towards the bigoted killers. Listen to what Dennis/Sam Waterston says at his closing statement concerning the plea bargain, that shows how I feel about the case.I was also impressed with how Stockard Channing played Judy, she was very convincing and compassionate, and I commended Shane Meier for his portrayal of Matthew.
The beating, and the scenes with that stupid hate-monger of a preacher and his clan of bigots make me furious even now. To this day, being almost 30 years old, I can't understand why we have to tolerate homophobia. That bonehead Rev. Phelps and his team need to be shut down before they get someone killed, or indirectly cause more gay suicides.
Freedom of speech is important, but what happened to respect for the dead? Hollywood is...

awesome, heartbreaking ....
I bought this movie for my children to show how far bulling can go. Hate has got to stop and teaching our children is where it starts. My boys had no idea of what words could do. This son, brother, friend should not have had to loose his life but because he did I hope his story helps others change their way. My heart goes out to this family. I would say this is a great movie to show how far hate can go and how love is never wrong!

And The HATE Goes On
It is so sad this movie shows us how hateful we really are. It is sad but this still goes on today only we don't hear about it. The message the actors show is heart wrenching. The pain the family feels is well told in this movie. Just when will we learn. I think all churches should show the movie and maybe the wouldn't be so hateful to the gays in this wotld, but than again what can you expect.

Madigan

'Madigan' is enjoyable police drama
As others have noted, "Madigan" is at its best in basic cops-and-robbers mode, when Detectives Dan Madigan (Richard Widmark) and Rocco Bennaro (Harry Guardino) are pursuing insanely dangerous gunman Barney Benesch (Steve Ihnat). Director Don Siegel knows what he's doing when it comes to movement and violence, and that's more than evident here.

A subplot involving the embattled police commissioner (Henry Fonda) and his struggle with possible graft on the part of his long-time friend and captain (James Whitmore) works reasonably well.

The commissioner's affair with a married woman (Susan Clark) isn't too much of a distraction, especially since Clark is nice to look at, as usual.

But the subplot that doesn't work is the unhappiness of Madigan's wife (Inger Stevens). Stevens does what she can to bring the woman to life, but the script defeats her, particularly in a scene following a police ball.

Production values are very high, as 1968 New York emerges vividly in the location...

Gritty 60's cop movie
This actionful New York set cops and robbers movie was co-scripted by the once blacklisted leftist writer Abraham Polonsky and this may ,together with the anti-establishmant modes of thinking current at the time of its making ,be responsible for its strongly critical stance on police corruption and morality .
Madigan (Richard Widmark)and his partner Bonaro (Harry Guardino)go to arrest a hoodlum wanted for murder ,one Benech(Steve Inhat). They find him in bed with a woman and using the fact that they are distracted by this he steals Madigan's gun and makes his getaway.Police Commissioner Russell (Henry Fonda) givbes them 72 hours to nail him and restore the prestige the department has lost by the fiasco
Russell has other weighty matters on his mind .He is having an affair with a married woman (Susan Clark).A prominent black minister (Raymond St Jacques) is hassling him over the death of the minister's son ,an "activist"who has been beaten by racist cops.Plus ,he is on the take...

GOLD STANDARD FOR ITS TIME
Richard Dougherty's THE COMMISSIONER, upon which MADIGAN, is based was one of the first works of fiction to accurately portray cops problems away from the station house. MADIGAN, one of the best films of 1968, is true to that part of the book and Don Siegel implants his own brand of genius on the rest. MADIGAN shows a not too distant era when there were blood-and-guts hat wearing detectives who worked their own angles to solve their cases. The portrayls by Widmark and Guardino are lasting and solid to the core. For it's time, MADIGAN was a gold standard in police procedurals. The NYC landscape bolstered by the Don Costa soundtrack is stunning.

Letters from Iwo Jima

Stories From The Other Side--Strong Characterizations Humanize "Letters From Iwo Jima"
Being a big Clint Eastwood fan, I attended "Flags of our Fathers" earlier this year expecting a monumental experience. Nothing could have surprised me more, however, with how disconnected I felt from that picture. It was a fascinating story and a nice tribute, but its awkward narrative framing and (more importantly) lack of genuine character development disappointed me. All I felt left with was a heavy-handed message with no real dramatic weight. I still looked forward to "Letters From Iwo Jima," however, intrigued by Eastwood's ambitions of portraying a Japanese perspective centered on the same event. Such a bold move makes me respect Eastwood even more. The film was rushed into release for the 2006 awards season when "Flags" failed to become a critical front-runner, and that decision seems to have paid off for the studio. Recognized by several major critic's groups, "Letters" also stands as a Best Picture candidate at the Academy awards.

Ironically, the aspect that...

An anti-bushido movie, and an honest tribute to the Japanese who suffered under it.
This is a great movie, and a truly original one, although not for the reasons that have been previously offered up by movie critics and fans.

First off, although this movie does portray the Japanese side of the story of the Battle of Iwo Jima, it does not glorify their role in this movie, nor does it ignore the lessons of history served up by this battle. For the few critics of this movie who say that the Japanese soldiers got what they deserved, that the Japanese started WWII, and that this movie only brings in undeserved sympathy for those soldiers, I say, as an American and a reader of military history, perhaps, but look deeper into what this movie is REALLY saying.

Although American film critics have almost universally hailed this movie as an anti-war movie, this movie is in reality only an anti-bushido movie. The movie has been extremely popular in Japan, and I cannot but help think that its underlying messages serve only to work against the cause of the...

It Comes in Three's
Letters From Iwo Jima depicts the Japanese side of the battle on Mount Suribachi. The film is an attempt to portray the humanistic qualities of Japanese soldier, and not so much focus on the ravage combat scenes that occurred on the island but rather the activities inside the crevasses of the caves that the soldiers occupied at an attempt to maintain Japanese possession of Mount Suribachi. There are similar battle scenes that were shown during Flags of Our Fathers, but the emphasis is the soldiers.

Eastwood focuses on two of the characters, General Tadamichi Kuribayashi (Ken Watanabe) and a baker and young soldier, Saigo (Kaizunari Ninomayi), and parallels their lives and to the war experience. Through short conversations and long silences and interactions between Japanese soldiers and American soldiers, Eastwood is effective in conveying the Japanese perspective. Certain scenes may shock and disturb viewers who are not familiar with the events that coincided with what...

The Quick & The Dead / Silverado

Improvement over original DVD but needs more extras (review for 2 DVD set)
A return to the classic western of yesterday, "Silverado" recalls the sprawling efforts of Sergio Leone and the old spaghetti westerns while recycling many of the motifs of the best efforts from Howard Hawks, Anthony Mann and John Ford. It's a pity that Kasdan hasn't rethought the film and added in additional footage. Perhaps the version we saw in theaters was the definitive version but given the wealth of material I doubt it. "Silverado" is greater than the sum of its parts with a number of strong performances from Kevin Costner, Scott Glenn, Kevin Kline, Brian Dennehy and others. Kasdan manages to echo classic films in this sprawling but exciting western adventure.

Emmett (Scott Glenn) has just been released from prison and is on his way to Silverado to visit with his family when he's attacked by a group of outlaws. He's initially unclear as to why they chose him but it soon becomes apparent that they're hired guns sent by Ethan McKendrick (Ray Baker) to average the...

The Best of The Modern Westerns
I'll tell you how much I like this movie. I bought the VHS and soundtrack no more than six weeks ago and upon discovering its DVD availability, I immediately hit "1-Click".

I can't think of another Western in the 15 years since this film was released that I enjoyed more, not even "Lonesome Dove", and that's saying a lot. I was praying that it would be released on DVD and it's nice to know my prayers were answered.

The cast is one of the finest of the mid-Eighties: Danny Glover, Kevin Kline, Scott Glenn, Kevin Costner, Jeff Goldblum, Linda Hunt, John Cleese, and Brian Dennehy. And these are just the principals.

Silverado is a sweeping Western demi-epic that takes some classic genre cliches and weaves them into a modern classic, emboldened by Bruce Boughton's masterful score. The master of this all is co-writer and director Lawrence Kasdan, who has given us some other gems like "Body Heat" and "The Big Chill".

This DVD...

Borrows Effectively From the Classics
In the well-made documentary that accompanies this collectors edition DVD release, the Kasdan brothers admit to being fans of the classic western films. They have incorporated many techniques of that genre in this fine film. The super cast includes Kevin Kline, Scott Glen, Kevin Costner, and Danny Glover as the four leads with Brian Dennehy, John Cleese, Jeff Goldblum, and Linda Hunt in supporting roles.

The film starts with a light flavor as we are introduced to the various characters but takes on an increasingly dark character as it rushes toward the foreseeable conclusion. This movie is meant to be a sort of compendium of all that is good about westerns and in that regard it performs admirably.

The DVD video quality is good but grain is noticeable in some scenes. Sound quality is quite good and the film was nominated for awards in that category. The aforementioned documentary is well worth watching and includes deleted scenes as well as insight from the Kasdan...

Casual Sex?

Yearning for immorality's care-free days
In the 1970s women almost eliminated the double-standard on immoral sex. Before then, people who wouldn't blink at promiscuous men scorned promiscuous women. With the 1980s came AIDS, and now unwanted pregnancy was no longer the biggest worry for the fast-lane crowd. CASUAL SEX tells the story of two single ladies in the fast lane with an eye on the exit ramp. It bounces between corny and funny, with most of the latter due to a stand-out performance by comedian Andrew Dice Clay. In addition to Clay, CASUAL SEX proves worthwhile for the short-lived relationship Lea Thompson has with whom she thinks is the man of her dreams. Romance does not turn out the way we fantasize it to be.

Excellent Movie- Wrong Title. Dice is Wonderful !
This movie is funny, romantic, silly, intelligent.Too bad the title is so wrong for it as this movie is not about casual sex but the desire for a real relationship. Andrew Dice CLay is wonderful as the "Vin Man" who is really a loving man who just wants to meet the right woman. Hollywood overlooked Andrew Dice Clay's perfect performance & still has not put him in another excellent role that fit him so well & at this point his looks aren't what they were in this 1987 romantic comedy. Victoria Jackson & Lea Thompson are just right in their roles as love-seeking women in the latter 1980's of safe sex- not just to avoid STDS such as the Aids disease but to also avoid getting emotionally involved with the wrong guy- and to avoid getting hurt yet again. This is an excellent comedy on dvd although it has NO extra features so maybe in the future there will be a Special edition as this is already it's 2nd time on dvd.

Great Movie For A "Just The Girls" Night!
This movie makes me laugh everytime I watch it! Lea and Victoria have not been in any movies recently, but this movie will make you wish they were! If you are looking for a smile, good laugh, and romance---this is the movie you want to see! Every guy in the film reminds you of a guy you have met before; and every conversation in the film reminds you of one you have had with your friends before as well! As a DVD, it rates OK because there is no behind the scences information, etc. I wish there was because every so often it appears as if they cut out a small bit of a scene---and I am the type who want to know what it was! I rate this movie as an excellent one to see with your friends---it will bring up memories you will die laughing about!

The Impossible Elephant

great family film
I thought this was great for the whole family. This movie is not rated, and usually, I base many of my choices on the rating. For those of you who do the same: The language overall was good. I think they used the word "sucks" a few times. There was a quick reference to "the naked channel", but it was very quick and not focused on. The main character asks what it is, and the supporting character says "it's a lot like the nature channel only more gross", and that was that. There is a bully that they call "Butterbutt", but one little girl says that isn't nice to call him that so they make an effort to show that this is unacceptable. These are very minor, and the theme of the movie is very touching and shows that wishes still come true for those who believe.

Finally, Impossible Elephant on DVD.
The Impossible Elephant premiered at The Sprockets Children Film Festival in Toronto in 2001, where it won the YTV Silver Sprocket, as the audience's favorite feature film. The film never showed in theaters in the US, but it was later screened in Europe and eventually was picked up by Showtime a few years later.

Directed by Martin Wood and penned by Robert C. Cooper, both of Stargate fame, Impossible Elephant is a charming film which explores Daniel's desire for a pet, and the unlikely fulfillment of that wish. For Daniel it's about believing in the impossible, and for his father Steven, it's about re-learning the need to believe and to look forward, not backwards.

Nicholas Lea and Mia Sara, the adult leads, have a comfortable chemistry on screen, but the younger cast members are the real stars. The well developed characters shine in the manic race to save Lumpy, while they learn lessons about life, change and growing up.

Though IE is ostensibly a...

Impossible Elephant
This a remarkable elephant. He is taken to school for show and tell and he plays basketball with the boy who wished for it. He wants it as a pet, but his father
says NO, but later changes his mind. The boy Daniel and some friends go to the zoo to get lumpy the elephant which was placed there at first. To get the elephant out of the zoo, he and some friends get on lumpy's back and the elephant flies. Very good!

The Horseman

Awesome Movie! 5 stars! One of the most intense movie I've seen!
Intense! like the previous review said, you have seen this plot before (more recently in the Taken move with Liam Neeson) but you have NEVER seen any revenge plot produced with such intensity.
Every minute is pretty much gripping and heart wrenching and honest. Our main character isn't a Kung Fu, special ops, commando type guy but just your average Joe who is at first emotionally numb towards his daughter's recent death. As the movie goes on his anger and rage grows and eventually he gets revenge not with choreographed action sequences and Hollywood special effects but with an honest and graphic caveman-like violence. If anything the violence inflicted is very human and honest and up close. It connects you with the hero because in most scenes he is fighting not just for revenge but for his own life as he gets mixed up with the wrong people connected to the original people he is seeking. This is where the movie earns every star.
Very good stuff. Like I said it reminded me of...

An Unsung Masterpiece
The Horseman absolutely blew me away I'm ordering it as I write this.
I caught it on Fios On Demand.
After his daughter ends up dead The girl in questions father finds out she was involved in a porno shoot where she was drugged and abused on set. What ensues next is one of the best revenge films I have ever seen.
It is shot somewhat out of sequence, basically after he"Peter Marshall" gives a ride to a stranded girl near the same age as his deceased daughter ,she asks if he has any children. This takes him back to the beginning in a flashback and from there it goes from flashback to real time.
It is brutal, bloody with teeth grinding ,edge of your seat suspense and action.
I don't see it as a horror movie but a riveting bloody thriller.
It starts off full speed ahead and never lets up.There was not one moment that I wasn't glued to the TV.Peter Marshall is incredibly believable ,powerful and brilliant as Christian the vengeful father on a mission.Since the...

Sticks with you like a big knuckle sandwich
Just when you're perhaps starting to think, "Well, this is OK but I'm just not sure it's so great..." it takes off. What a ride. Deep emotion and personal reflection that quickly intensifies into one of the most believably vicious movies Ive ever seen. Youll feel like you've had the stuffing knocked out of you.

Tony Bennett: The Music Never Ends (Two-Disc Special Edition)

The new 'Gold Standard' for musical biography!
"You want it for Christmas?" my wife asked, after spotting a small, full-color ad for this DVD package in our "National Post" newspaper. And while she shopped at Sears for a red dress yesterday, I dropped into the next-door Wal-Mart (ostensibly to see the new "Eagles" CD - "available exclusively, for under 12 dollars!"). And there it was: stacks and stacks of "Clint Eastwood Presents Tony Bennett: The Music Never Ends TWO-DISC Special Edition" And well . . . I couldn't wait till Christmas to enjoy!

After my son put up our (artificial) tree -- as he always does -- and had strung the hundreds of (clear) lights . . . in preparation for his two children coming over today to decorate it (as only they can) . . . then we sat down to watch this show: 'Spellbinding,' is the word that springs to mind.

First things first: No performer in the history of American popular music has ever been better `celebrated' in a made-for-TV production than by this (2007) "American...

Great concept and artist, terrible production mistake
Pre-Ordered this after seeing the PBS special. Bennett is my all time favorite and disk one is absouley wonderful. However as an earlier reviewer noted, the second disc is a duplicate of the first, not the concert performance it is supposed to be. Having this corrected by Amazon is an impossibility. Just try to get a human to respond to your problem. My advice is not to waste your $ now on amazon and wait to see if warner video realizes what they've done. Get it from an actual store that can address the problem if your copy has the error.

Im sure it would be great if both disks werent the same. The concert is missing.
Ive ordered 3 of these in hopes to get the Concert disk- to actually be a concert.
Both disks are the same thing- disk 1.
Sony didnt even recall them.
And they Admitted it!!!
They just let us waste our money and figured we would live with it.
Typical of a rich corporation nowadays.

Boooo on Sony for this.
Very WRONG of them to pull such a selfish stunt.

The Hanged Man

Not bad for a first effort
Very frugal budget. Interesting concept of random strangers who meet in a chat room and plan a group suicide. I liked the plot twist when it was discovered that one of the members of the group had a very different agenda. It was obvious early on that one can be whoever one wants to be in cyberspace. I suspect the original screenplay did a much better job of character development - which suffered on the editing room floor.

Not great, but not a total waste
There were a couple places the story line could have been stronger, a couple spots that were a little disjointed, and a couple spots where it dragged just a bit. The end isn't really shocking, but it is a creepy movie.

An impressive thriller with great depth and originality
Where would we be without indie filmmakers? The Hanged Man is a real gem of a film featuring - dare I say it? - some actual originality, a really impressive script, solid acting, and a story that actually develops rather than being obvious from the start. I can even report a rare sighting of actual character development here. Rarely have filmmakers done more with such a low budget (estimated at two hundred thousand dollars). Director Neil H. Weiss and writer Glenn B. Hopper III have done Tennessee-based Starbox Pictures proud with this effort.

Having expressed their suicidal thoughts to one another in a chat room, six tormented souls have assembled at a remote barn to kill themselves as a group. No one wants to die alone, and the de facto leader of the group, Dwarfstar, has promised to bring along some "magic juice" that does the job quickly and painlessly. There's just one problem - Dwarfstar is a no-show. Soco, the member of the party you would least like to meet...

The Films of Michael Sporn Volume 2 (The Hunting of the Snark/The Talking Eggs)

Mixed impressions
These two pieces are sure to leave very different impressions with different viewers. The Hunting of the Snark is a perennial favorite, perhaps the finest piece of nonsense in the English language. It is well worth presenting again and again, keeping it fresh as tastes in visual and performance styles change. The Talking Eggs is a modern fairy tale in an urban setting. It features kind-hearted Selina and her more self-centered mother and brother in brief story about generosity, achieving one's dreams, and being open to a little bit of everyday magic. Both stories feature a loose, warm, hand-drawn style that makes the art very accessible. "Snark" use more pen and watercolor, "Eggs" uses pastel or colored pencil on coarse paper, in an animated collage. James Earl Jones, one of the most recognizable and impressive voices around, narrates "Snark." Danny Glover, almost as well recognized, offers his voice to "Eggs." Both stories, but especially "Eggs" will appeal to kids of read-to-me...

Baby Genius: Favorite Children's Songs

Get the Nursery Rhymes DVD first
This is a cute DVD but not as good as the Baby Genuius Nursery Rhymes DVD. First of all I don't think these songs are FAVORITE CHILDREN'S SONGS. The list includes "take me out to the ballgame" and "yankee doodle dandy". I think some of the songs are good, but they should have had Children's songs for young children, since this DVD is definite geared towards younger children. "Sing, Dance and Play" - sort of the BG theme song is done nicely. My granddaughter is a year old - loves the Nursery Rhymes DVD and watches this one - it's just not as good. But it's still entertaining for your child.

Baby Genius
My 1 year old son gets hypnotized by these videos. He doesn't sit still long enough to watch anything else on TV, but the puppets/animation/kids keep him watching. Always welcome in my home.

Poor- not even close to other titles from Baby Genius
I bought this title after the great experience with the "Nursery Rhymes" DVD. I have several unpleasant problems with this title:
1. The quality of audio is very bad, it sounds like a home recording
2. Images and scenes are average, not much effort has been put into them
3. The accompanying Compact Disc turned out to be in SPANISH! (no mention on Amazon about this)
4. Though my baby son is totally riveted when i put on the Nursery Rhymes DVD, he couldn't care less when this one is playing
5. What songs are these anyway? the lyrics seem altered in a very weird way, for incomprehensible reasons

Baby Genius: Baby Animals Favorite Sing-A-Longs

Pretty good - not awesome
This video is OK. It's entertaining for the little ones but I wish it had more "educational" aspects to it. For example, instead of just music with videos of animals, it would be awesome if they showed the animal making the animal noise that we all teach our kids. Like the elephant trumpeting, the lion roaring, the monkey chattering, etc. That would help my daughter at least connect the dots between what I tell her when reading books and what she sees in the video. Its hard to find videos like that.

That being said, my 14 month old is pretty entertained by it. But she does like her other videos better that have more talking about the animals. Basically I think kids sometimes prefer the educational stuff over just music and video.

Really sweet and the songs aren't annoying
Our daughter really likes this dvd. She'll watch the whole thing happily. The songs don't bug the adults, either, which is a major bonus. Most are original lyrics about the animal being depicted but to the tune of familiar kids songs.

great!
My 2 yr old received this for his bday and he absolutely loves it! He squeals when he sees the meerkats popping up to the music! He is a huge animal and music lover so this movie was perfect. It also allowed me to have a little time to get the dishes done! I highly recommend to other mothers who can't get 30 minutes to themselves to get something done! =) I will b ordering more animal videos! They are also such a good price!

Tell Tale

Decent Popcorn Flick - But Unrelated to Poe
Let me first make something clear: "Tell Tale" actually has nothing to do with "The Tell-Tale Heart" by Edgar Allan Poe. In Poe's short story, a murderer is haunted by the sounds of his victim's beating heart. In the film, the recipient of a heart transplant shares a supernatural connection with his deceased donor, and seeks to unravel the mystery of his murder. The film only emphasizes the heartbeat when single father Terry sees someone that the victim did.

The film is directed by Michael Cuesta, who previously directed episodes of Dexter and Six Feet Under. It's produced by Tony and Ridley Scott, and even though they aren't listed as directors, I found it interesting that the film borrows direction techniques from Man on Fire (A Tony Scott film).

I've enjoyed work by Josh Lucas in the past (Glory Road, Sweet Home Alabama), but he simply doesn't stand out in this role. On the other hand, Brian Cox (Bourne Identity, Braveheart) absolutely steals the show as...

Nice surprise.
Tell Tale (Michael Cuesta, 2009)

This is another of those pleasant-surprise films that simply disappeared into the ether. It showed at Tribeca, failed to find an American distributor, and went straight to DVD a year later. On the other hand, successful festival runs in other parts of the world led to theatrical releases in France, Singapore, Greece, Mexico, Brazil, Russia, South Africa, Australia... and the list goes on. Why is it that other countries are so able to recognize the worth of smaller American films, while those of us who like to see things on the big screen are so often spoon-fed the lowest common denominator? (I already think I know the answer to that question, but I'm hoping if I keep asking it, the studios who refuse to take chances on intelligent, low-budget movies like this will get the hint.)

This is, in fact, an adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe's "The Tell-Tale Heart", but it's not one you're likely to recognize. Scriptwriter Dave Callaham (The...

Confusing plot, actors mumble
There was something satisfying about the way the main character kept offing those who had killed his heart donor. But most of the time it was difficult to figure the story, and we were painfully aware that all the actors (but most particularly the female doctor who was the love interest), kept swallowing their words so that none of us could hear what was said. Regarding the confusing plot, one of the people with whom I was watching is a cardiologist - well, all of us are certified to be quite intelligent and experienced watchers of art flicks.... I think by the end we understood where the story was headed but were definitely underwhelmed.

BTW, this Blu-ray DVD apparently lacks subtitles. We looked for those, as they might have helped us understand the mumbled lines.

Triple Feature Thriller: The Six Degrees of Helter Skelter/The Ted Bundy Story/Boneyard

Darn good homicidal maniac triple feature
ECHO BRIDGE (aka Platinum Disc) really did this Triple Play DVD flipdisc justice. There's no on-screen watermarks and the dubs are very good. The first two here are well worth the price of admission.

SIX DEGREES OF HELTER SKELTER is a 90 minute documentary that takes us to the actual California crime scenes of the Charles Manson family, to the Spahn Ranch where Charlie was captured, plus many other locations. It includes autopsy reports and some rather bloody victim photos. Events unrelated to the Tate/LaBianca killings are covered, like Manson's hooking up with Dennis Wilson and a murder he may have committed himself. We also hear a recording of a Manson song.

Hollywood historian and host/narrator Scott Michaels seems nervous at the outset (his commentary is delivered a bit too fast) but he soon settles into a good pace as we explore material and events he's very familiar with. "Six Degrees" is an excellent show and I highly recommend it!

THE TED...

2 Out Of 3 Ain't Bad
I purchased this DVD at Wal-Mart for $5 dollars -- not a bad price for 3 movies.

However, to clarify, THE TED BUNDY STORY is the only "movie" in the set. The other features are a 2-hour documentary on the Manson Family murders (VERY detailed and very entertaining), as well as a 2-hour segment of the A&E series, THE PROSECUTERS titled THE BONEYARD, which was nothing more than re-enactments of the actual case. I found this 3rd feature to be the least entertaining and most cumbersome to watch.

But overall, not bad for a $5 price tag.

Great Collection!
For the reviewer who wrote "Two Out of Three Ain't Bad", indicating that the Ted Bundy "The Stranger Beside Me" was not on the disc, I, too, bought this disc at Wal*Mart for $5.00. It is a dual-sided disc and the Ted Bundy story is on the second side. The quality of this story and the 2 other movies/documentaries are excellent and you can't beat the price.

Murder 101/Gypsy Warriors - Double Feature!

Fun, good movies of the week
I enjoyed these movies very much. I am glad that I purchased them so I can easily see them whenever I want.

Murder 101 has suspense, drama, some pathos, and a twist in the end. It's not Oscar material, but it's a very satisfying mystery.

Gypsy Warriors is funny and kind of cute. It's rather frivolous about a serious topic, but it's good for a good-hearted chuckle.

I purchased the disk for the "Murder 101", but Gypsy Warriors was worth the watching as well.

I love Bob the Builder in general though as it teaches great lessons, this DVD focuses on teamwork, responsibility, following directions and more! This DVD also includes content never before seen on TV, so that would be great for Bob fans who have thought they have seen it all! My boys don't watch Bob on TV, but they love the DVDs, probably because they love tools and trucks! This DVD is also in Full Power CGI Animation, which means it is brightly colorful animation instead of the typical claymation from old Bob! I think this DVD would be fun for old or new Bob fans.

Ubiquitous Bob likes Soccer.
'A new day is dawning for Bob and his crew,' indeed. If you're a fan (or, as in my case, the mother of fans) of BtB, then chances are you're pretty familiar with the old Bob settings: the eponymous Bobsville of the original season and Sunflower Valley and Bobland Bay of Project: Build-it fame.

This third incarnation of BtB takes the crew to a completely new setting entitled 'historic' Fixham Harbor* (I think referred to as Harbor Town). A bit confusing for the kids- though still enjoyable- as the scenery and features of the first two seasons are just now reconstructed into this new place: the building 'yard', Bob's house, and even the street scenes of Bobsville are now referred to as this new city. The same applies to the beach scenes and picturesque 'Valley' (wilderness) spots. For someone completely new to the genre, this will matter little; for a longstanding fan (especially one who takes keen interest in what 'the Team' is up to these days), the changes will seem...

The Cyberstalking / Killer Deal

NOTHING TO SEE HERE
This is a sub-standard film hyped with a sexy photo and suggestive title. The movie is about a hi-tech dance club which features a reality performer in a seamless holographic image. The problem is that the software has created a dark ominous man who scares the heck out of the singer. Samantha (Claudine Wilde) is the original star, but then gets freaked out. She is replaced by Holly (Jean Louisa Kelly). Samantha has a brother who attempts to visit her, but her employer doesn't allow it, apparently Samantha lives at the studio too because calling her or visiting her at home is not a movie option. . The dancing and music was 1980's style, with the dancers at the club simply going through the motions. Holly, who is supposed to write her own music, performs several times, always the same song. The acting was bad, characters poorly developed, and a plot that leaves you scratching your head.

No sex or nudity and I don't recall any F-bombs. Not worth the rental. The movie can be...

Within the average range of made for tv movies
First things first. If you do want one or both of these movies go for 10 Movie Sci-fi pack available right now from Amazon for $5.00, that is less than the cost for this double header.
Neither is a poor film, both are somewhat below low average for the category. Both are watchable. In the first a major club/record star is developing psychological problems with the machinery which is being used to convert her dreams to the visual and auditory signals conveyed to the public. The second deals with a police officer who, as a reward for years of
excellent service is given a place in the much sought after elite housing colony. It is withdrawn after a day in which he allowed a potential organ donor to that colony commit suicide in a way which renders her body useless for organ donation. Acting and Direction is pretty much what you would expect, but adequate to the need of the films. Both held my interest sufficiently for me to reach the end. They are what they are, no...

Interesting low-budget Sci-Fi TV classic!
This review is for "The Cyberstalking"

I saw this movie when it originally aired on television when I was a teenager. I loved it then and I love it now. I had lost it for around a decade as it was difficult to find it released in any way. Found it on Youtube in parts and then here and now I have it in my collection!

I will admit, it's definitely a 90s TV movie and has it's shortcomings here and there but the concept and idea is great. The film is fun to watch, not hard to follow and good interesting scifi. It's worth the try for the price that it is listed for on here.

If only I could find the song from the film that is sung by the actress! If someone can find me that, I would be so happy! They only released the version by the band who wrote the song and I just don't like it as much.

So, give this movie a try! You get 2 movies in the package anyways. ;)

Happy Tears

Beautiful,Touching and FUNNY!!!
Wonderfully acted by everyone! Rip Torn is a dream but cudos to all! Interesting story line and a perceptive look at familial relationships. It gets a little trippy but that's part of the fun. Wacky, crazy, funny and oddly relatable, the movie is a joyous and touching ride. It resonates for days after. LOVED IT!

Sorry this one is boring
Figured it had potential to be funny. But is wasn't, and not very interesting. Can't reccomend this movie to anyone.

horrible film
Please dont waste a second of your life watching this film. Roy Lichtenstien's brilliants starts and ends on the cover.

Youth in Revolt

A great cult film
Youth in Revolt is the adaptation of C.D. Paynes cult book by the same title. It follows the storyline of his first three novellas (later combined into a single book) that follow a young man by the name of Nick Twisp, who after discovering the love of his life does whatever he must to stay with her.

The film itself is a far cry from the hilarious prose of the witty novel that inspired it. However by itself, Youth in Revolt is surely a great romantic comedy, and Michael Cera's best performance to date. If you are looking for a short, well-directed, well-acted and hilarious romp then look no further. This is a movie I think all movie buffs should add to their collection and one that sadly went unnoticed in theaters.

After you watch the movie, if you find the characters entertaining I highly suggest picking up the books. They are a light read, very entertaining and even more well-crafted than this short feature film.

Two Thumbs Up!

Loved It!
Well, it's been a long wait, but Youth in Revolt is finally hitting the big screen in a wide release. And it's worth the wait. I laughed through just about the whole movie. And before I get deep into the review, I have read the book. So let's get into it.

BAD:
1. Quite short. A 90 minute romp through a 500-page novel. What?
2. CUTS! Many characters from the novel such as Apurva and Fuzzy hve been severed from the movie. Maybe Apurva was cut from them film to emphasize Nick's love for Sheeni. But Fuzzy's cut? He's the whole reason they can go to the French boarding school in Act II. What?
3. No Carlotta, really! If you have read the book you know what I mean with this.
That's it for the bad.
GOOD:
1. Hysterical! Does this really need an explanation? It's funny!
2. Animation sequences. These occur at certain points in the film to facilitate scenes. Very creative!
3. Good Acting/Cameos. The film has very good acting. Michael Cera and...

I Can Watch it Over and Over Again
This is a film that seems strange at first watching, but after a second viewing the movie is absolutely hilarious. Similar to films like "Little Miss Sunshine" and "Observe in Report," "Youth in Revolt" is an indie-esque movie with amazing performances praising its great source material. This is my favorite film with Michael Cera, and he definately displays all of his talent in this movie. The ability to play two distinct personalities that do not seem as if they are the same person, is a quality that makes Cera a fine actor. The supporting cast is perfectly formed with actors like Buscemi and Justin Long. I disagree with the critical reviews saying that Cera and Doubleday have no chemistry. Their chemistry is practically flowing out of my big screen and spilling onto the floor. And then I'll have to call Stanley Steamer to clean the chemistry off my rug. Anyway, what makes this a five star film follows:

*Hilarious script due to source material
*Every actor...

The Lone Ranger

Disappointed
I was happy to see this item available at such a reasonable cost however, when viewing the episodes, some of them had problems - skipping sections of the video or just stopping for 10 - 20 seconds and them continuing.

Great. We are enjoying this product
I got it as a gift for my son and he just loves it! It has 2 DVD and we use the tin box!

coolest lunch box on the block
very cool, brings my husband back to being a kid. I bought it for him, he is a lone ranger fan.

The Problems of Work

A Very Useful Book
If you have a job or do any kind of work (who doesn't) you can find something in this book of relevance and use.

This book helps explain "burnout" and exhaustion and how to overcome those feelings. It also helps those of us that feel we are trying to do too many things at once and how to fix that.

I recommend this simple yet "chocked full of tips" book for anyone looking to make life a little simpler and more balanced.

On What Does Holding a Job Depend?
The book consists of 200 pages. Of these, roughly 75 are appendixes (such as "further studies", "glossary", etc). The remaining 125 pages has been compiled from various L. Ron Hubbard writings.

The book starts with a chapter on insecurity and confusion. Hubbard argues that these thing happen because man lacks a stable reference point in life (which he calls "stable datum"). He explains that the purpose of the book is to provide the stable datum: "I understand about life and jobs. Therefore I can get, hold and improve them."

Some chapters might be confusing for the person not previously accustomed to Scientology teachings. This includes such methods as the tone scale and the ARC triangle (Affinity + Reality + Communication = Understanding). If you want to know more about those, you can read about those on wikipedia or search google.

However, the chapters with practical advices do build on the scientology methods. Hubbard explains the importance of...

Totally Relevant to Today's World!
I don't know about you, but this world is becoming one that I'm no longer sure of. I've always been confident in my abilities, sure that my employment would continue as long as I wanted it to, secure in the knowledge that my future looked pretty good financially, etc. But what used to be "bumps" - the stock market taking a dive, housing going down - don't seem like "bumps" anymore. They're not recovering - and rather than the government doing something to correct it, it seems we're going in the direction of things getting worse. There's more unemployment, huge taxes in the future, businesses closing! Then these "broad" problems started hitting home --- a few of my very competent friends were "let go" from their jobs. I'm actually good at what I do - but so were they! Suddenly my confidence was shattered.

I realized one thing - I had to personally do something about it. Could I change the direction some of these broad changes are taking us? Could I talk to someone and say -...
